Botanic Gardens – The Dell Wedding Photography and Videography
Are you looking for a wedding photographer at The Dell, Gibraltar? Hello, I’m Gary Tapp and maybe you found this page because you are looking for your wedding photographer at Botanic Gardens – The Dell in Gibraltar. I am based and living on the Costa del Sol, and I travel to and cover weddings in Gibraltar.
The Dell is located inside the Botanical Gardens (The Alameda) and is available for hire for a fee, and wedding ceremonies can take place in this beautiful subtropical garden area. It is a beautiful place. You could not ask for a more beautiful setting for your wedding. The Dell, which is situated opposite the bridge, allows up to 25 guests to be present with the couple. Extra guests can be accommodated on the bridge. Wedding services are permitted in The Dell from April through October; from November through March, weddings can be held underneath the bandstand. The gardens are also on the route back to the Rock Hotel with all the hidden gems in this little oasis of peace.
Professional wedding photography taken at The Dell Gibraltar wedding area set up inside the Botanical Gardens (Alameda Gardens) in Gibraltar
Tucked away inside Gibraltar Botanic Gardens (The Alameda), The Dell is a beautifully secluded, Italian-style garden area that’s popular for intimate ceremonies and quietly romantic portrait sessions. Because it sits within a public garden, weddings there usually involve a little planning around permissions, timings, guest flow, and privacy, so here are the questions couples most often ask when they’re considering The Dell for their “I do” and their photos.
Botanic Gardens – The Dell ceremony area for weddings FAQs:
Can we actually get married in The Dell, or is it just for photos?
Yes, the Dell is commonly used for small wedding ceremonies, as well as for couple portraits before or after your legal ceremony.
How many guests can the Dell accommodate for a ceremony?
The Dell is best suited to intimate weddings. Guest numbers are typically limited in the ceremony area itself, with the option for additional guests to view from nearby vantage points (such as the bridge above/through the space), depending on the setup agreed upon with the venue team.
Is The Dell private and exclusive during our ceremony?
It feels wonderfully tucked away, but it’s located inside a public garden. In practice, you can often achieve a “private” feel through timing, positioning, and how your ceremony space is arranged, even if parts of the gardens remain open to visitors.
Are there fees for wedding photography and videography inside The Dell?
Put simply, no. I can provide coverage without any additional fees!
What makes The Dell feel so special for wedding photos?
It’s a naturally romantic pocket of the gardens, with layered greenery, intriguing stonework, and a “secret garden” atmosphere that photographs beautifully in both wide shots and close, intimate portraits.
What’s the best time of day for photos in The Dell?
Soft light is your best friend there. Earlier or later in the day often works well for a calmer feel and more flattering light, while midday sun can be harsher and create stronger contrast under trees and around stone features.
What happens if it rains or the weather turns windy?
Because it’s outdoors, you’ll want a simple wet-weather plan. Many couples bring clear umbrellas, adjust timings, or plan a shorter ceremony and do portraits in sheltered spots within the gardens or nearby covered areas.
Can we decorate The Dell for our ceremony (flowers, chairs, arch, aisle)?
Usually yes, within guidelines. Most venues permit tasteful décor, but you must agree on what is allowed, the installation process, and the removal of items that could affect pathways, plants, or ponds.
Is The Dell accessible for older guests or anyone with mobility concerns?
Access can involve garden paths and occasional uneven surfaces. If you have guests who need easier access, it’s smart to ask about the most suitable route, nearby drop-off points, and whether seats can be positioned to minimise walking.
Can we do couple portraits in The Dell without doing the ceremony there?
Absolutely. Many couples choose The Dell purely as a portrait location—either as a quiet “first look” spot, post-ceremony portraits, or a romantic mini-session on a separate day.
How long should we allow for photos in The Dell and around the Botanic Gardens?
For The Dell alone, a focused session can be quick and relaxed—but if you’d like a fuller story across pathways, planting areas, and different backdrops in the gardens, allowing extra time gives you a calmer experience and a bigger variety of images.
